Zones on the charts you import
A spreadsheet from another program may carry an offset, a zone name, or neither.
- An offset. A cell that writes 5W or 5E settles itself. A bare number does not, since programs disagree about which direction is positive, so Arcus gives you a control that reads "East of Greenwich, New York is -5" or "West of Greenwich, New York is 5". The first rows are shown back to you as they are being read, so a wrong setting is visible before anything is cast.
- A zone name. A full name like Europe/London is used as given. An abbreviation like EST is not enough to cast on and is left alone.
- Neither. A row with no coordinates and no offset has no clock to cast its birth time on, so it is held out of the import until you look the place up at the review step.
An offset in the file outranks a zone name in the same file, and both are worked out before a single row becomes a chart. The rest of the spreadsheet steps are on importing charts from a spreadsheet.
